About Shawn Saindon
I live in Warren with my wife, where we’re bringing our farm back into production and building a life rooted in this community. We chose to be here because of the rural character, natural beauty, and the people who make this part of Mid Coast Maine so special. I care deeply about protecting what makes our towns unique while making sure they remain places working people and families can afford to call home.
My background is hands-on and shaped by Maine’s working economy. I’ve worked in the seafood industry, on farms, and now in Marketing and Sales at Union Farm Equipment in Union. I earned a business degree from Southern Maine Community College and have spent the past eight years serving on the Warren Planning Board, where I’ve had a front-row seat to the changes affecting our area and worked through issues like housing, growth, land use, and long-term planning.
I’m running as an Independent because I believe District 44 deserves practical, steady leadership focused on real-life concerns, not party politics. I’ll show up, listen, and work hard to find common-ground solutions that support our communities, our economy, and our future.

What Matters Most
Independent, Practical Leadership
Our communities are best served by leadership that listens, focuses on real problems, and avoids unnecessary division. I’m committed to bringing a practical, steady approach to decision-making — one that puts the people of this district first and works toward solutions instead of political talking points.
Balanced Growth & Local Planning
After more than eight years on the Planning Board, I’ve had a front-row seat to the changes shaping our community.
I’ve seen how important it is to manage growth thoughtfully, plan for the future, and still protect the rural character that makes our towns special.
That means listening to people, respecting different perspectives, and finding the right balance between development and preservation.
Affordable Housing
Affordable housing is one of the biggest challenges facing our communities because it affects so much else. It shapes whether young families can stay here, whether veterans can find safe and stable housing, and whether older residents can remain in the towns they helped build. It also has a direct impact on small businesses, farms, and local economies, all of which depend on people being able to live and work in the communities they serve. I believe we need to approach housing honestly and with compassion, recognizing how closely it connects to homelessness, recovery, and the overall strength of our towns, while focusing on practical solutions that actually work for people.
Healthcare Access
Healthcare matters to every one of us. Whether it’s young families raising kids, veterans who’ve served our country, or older folks wanting to stay healthy and independent, people need dependable care close to home. I believe we ought to be doing everything we can to protect and strengthen access to healthcare, so folks can get the care they need without jumping through hoops.
Environment & Climate Responsibility
Maine’s environment is a big part of what keeps our communities healthy, our local economy going, and our way of life so special. Around District 44, that means places like Hatchet Mountain in Hope, Seven Tree Pond in Union, and Crawford Pond in Warren — the kind of places that remind you what we’re working to protect. Our woods, waters, and working lands support jobs, recreation, and the character of our towns. I believe we need to take care of those natural resources and take climate change seriously, in a way that’s practical and grounded in the needs of the people who live and work here.
Supporting Small Businesses & Working People
I’ve seen firsthand how important local small businesses are to our communities. They do more than create jobs — they help keep our towns going, support local families, and serve as trusted pillars of the local economy. I also understand how difficult it can be to stay afloat when costs, markets, and conditions are constantly changing. I want to make sure policies are grounded in those realities and help small businesses remain strong and sustainable.
Taxes & Affordability
People are feeling real pressure when it comes to affordability, and taxes are a big part of that. I believe in keeping taxes fair and responsible while recognizing the realities families, workers, and small businesses are dealing with every day. Government needs to stay grounded in those realities and make decisions that ease the burden, not add to it.
Farms, Farmland & Local Food
Agriculture is part of my family, and that’s one reason preserving farmland and supporting local food production are so important to me. They play a major role in our economy, our environment, and our independence as a state. I want to help protect working land and strengthen our food system for the generations ahead.
